Washington planned a new sanctions package aimed at isolating Iran and penalising countries that continue business with Tehran. Iran condemned the plan as an attempt to extend US authority beyond its borders and warned it could halt Gulf oil exports if economic pressure continues. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was due to give details.
